Friargate Quakers come together each month for a Local Meeting for Business. All members of the meeting can take part. In this meeting for worship, matters relating to the organisation, activities and policies of the meeting are considered.
Decisions are taken using the Quaker business method. They are recorded in written minutes during the meeting by our Local Meeting Clerks.
The practical life of the Local Meeting is managed by its committees, all made up of members of the meeting. These committees in turn are answerable to the Local Meeting.
Elders have care of the spiritual life of the meeting. Overseers carry out pastoral care of our Friends and attenders. Elders and Overseers are appointed by York Area Meeting.
Our meetings for church affairs, in which we conduct our business, are also meetings for worship based on silence.
