Quaker worship begins when the first Friends sit in silence together.
Children join us for the first quarter of an hour, when they leave to continue with other activities in several age groups.
Visitors are welcome to all our meetings for worship. When you join the worshipping group, you can just sit down wherever you like. Most meetings last for an hour, and finish by two Friends present shaking hands.
If you are visiting for the first time, you might find it helpful to read the leaflet Your first time at a Quaker Meeting? for the first few minutes. (You will find this small leaflet in the rack near the main entrance.)
There is a special leaflet for newcomers to Friargate. You can also read it here.
Our library, the leaflet racks and a book stall have more information about Quakers and Quaker activities.
Our Quiet Room is also available to anyone through the week for silent reflection or worship.
Following Meeting for Worship, there are notices about forthcoming events. We then chat over tea and coffee.
In worship, Quakers meet together in silence. In the gathered stillness we listen to the promptings of truth and love in our hearts. Spoken contributions may be made from the stillness.
